Offworlder

by V. Blake

so we're sitting, one-sixteenth-sober
in this gin-soaked vortex of an after-hours basement
and it's really more like getting sucked into a black hole
than leaning against the crowded wall of a tavern
and there's this one asshole with his fuckin' shades on
or like, he's got stigmata on his face or something,
and he just keeps throwin' shotglasses at the ceiling!
and the shards, man, they're flyin' all over the room
'cause the whole place is spinning really fast, ya know?
and the bouncer can't get to him, 'cause he's the singularity
and my friends and me, we're all vodka-numb
so we're savin' the cuts on our arms for the hangover
and we do our best to fall gracefully out of this washing machine
like socks, or something, when it's too full, ya know?
and we're floating down this sidewalk river for like
i dunno, ten minutes maybe,
when corey hart back there comes paddlin' down after us
and we're laughin' and bleedin' and breathin' in neon
and all of a sudden my friend was like,
"hey, what the hell were you doin' back there?"
and this guy just looks back at him with those holes in his head
and he goes,

"I was making stars."

...i too think this is far out. a crunchingly good read. a regular nite o' horror eh? i love the fluid language and it's delivery, puts the reader there.

I love the way this reads. It reads like a big long run on sentence, which is exactly how you think in moments like those.

This is somehow refreshing in it's feeling of slurred drunken-ness. Nice blend of progressive whirling - got me drunk-spinning. Seriously though, it's a nice type of conversational/performance voice. Also, reminds me of some old times...

I think I've met that guy! I like this.
