So far away

by Maria Kintner

How far have I walked from you?
We start where the sky is bleeding.
Where the waves of heat keeps time fading.

I didn't even realize I was moving my feet.
I was too afraid to look back,
didn't think you'd want to follow.

How far have I walked from you?
It's been so long since I've seen you smile.

The words are dwindling, and the bass of your voice is lilting.
Somewhere, like a song or something, in the back of my mind.

How far have I walked from you?
You are not where you should be standing.
In the end, my shoes were never really moving.
How can I walk away from a bird in flight?
A trick I can't pull off with these lead feet,
and these burning soles.

Walking isn't the game here. The game is never forgetting.

leaves me sad, which I'm guessing the emotion which prompts this. When we find ourselves drifting away from someone we love, it is devestating, yet sometimes we cannot stop it from happening!

Good write lady. But you won't forget regardless of what happens. These things find a room in the mind and every once in a while they open the door and say "remember?".
