So far away by Maria KintnerHow far have I walked from you?
We start where the sky is bleeding.
Where the waves of heat keeps time fading.
I didn't even realize I was moving my feet.
I was too afraid to look back,
didn't think you'd want to follow.
How far have I walked from you?
It's been so long since I've seen you smile.
The words are dwindling, and the bass of your voice is lilting.
Somewhere, like a song or something, in the back of my mind.
How far have I walked from you?
You are not where you should be standing.
In the end, my shoes were never really moving.
How can I walk away from a bird in flight?
A trick I can't pull off with these lead feet,
and these burning soles.
Walking isn't the game here. The game is never forgetting. 11/23/2009 Posted on 11/23/2009 Copyright © 2025 Maria Kintner
