Perspective by Rachel BennettPostdiluvian nightmares
Of challenging deserts
Do perspire and conspire
To tear down certainty.
Hálf is empty, hálf is full-
Nó - the argumént is null,
For wáter came and wáter went,
And áll we áre is spént.
When the water is no more
The dams and waterwells will wait,
Dust and parchment then will catch,
Marionettes in weightless breath.
Hálf is empty, hálf is full-
Nó - the argumént is null,
For wáter came and wáter went,
And áll we áre is spént.
The ground will soon break
As wafers under steel-toed boots,
Spreading papercuts like yawns
And sneezes like kindness.
Hálf is empty, hálf is full-
Nó - the argumént is null,
For wáter came and wáter went,
And áll we áre is spént. 11/17/2009 Author's Note: It's a song, of sorts.

Posted by Alison McKenzie on 11/18/09 at 10:54 AM This is a delight to read, the word play is brilliant even though the message is a somber one. I love the repeating verse, as the arguement itself tends to do. |
Posted by George Hoerner on 11/18/09 at 03:34 PM Water water every where and... this is a great write. Precious water will be our next waterloo if it isn't already. And I can see now how it will be regulated/controlled by the FDA, EPA, FTC, SEC, NRC, and of course the IRS will have to get involved. Our glasses will be less full over time. And welcome to Pathetic. |
Posted by Julie Adams on 01/27/10 at 08:24 PM I love water being the subject, as I am such a water girl...and though the chorus is rather sobering the melody and the repetition keep the mood light...your imagery and vocabulary are stellar, lines I loved: "Postdiluvian nightmares" and "As wafers under steel-toed boots" and "Spreading papercuts like yawns"...kudos, all the best, jewels |
