when dreaming leads you off a cliff by Jared Fladelandthe slip
a piece of manila envelope
scrawled across a cliff and another cliff,
a man wiping his face with a rag,
staring across like a trapeze artist
preparing to slip just so he can regain his balance.
have you ever been still,
and the only thought running through your mind
was a bead of sweat running down your face?
You can feel an entire lifetime in that moment.
and now, you're jumping because of will,
and the last thing you remember
is the dream you had once
where you still had superpowers,
but it's obvious only when it's too late
that the dream world can never be reality. 11/15/2009 Posted on 11/16/2009 Copyright © 2026 Jared Fladeland
