in way over our heads

by Ava Blu

the time is gigantic
when we don’t have a moment to talk
when we haven’t been able to see each other
when the petals dry and crack,
taking us to the floor

the eyes are mesmerizing
when they form perfect moons in the dead of night
when the color becomes a shadow behind the perfect cloud
when the light can’t linger on long enough

and I never believed in perfect,
the thought becoming a burden
becoming a wasteland to bury love

but something in the way you say my name is changing my mind

so we may be in way over our heads,
with time becoming Moby Dick and we lack the proper net to get it back,

but if this is what it takes to evolve from content to happiness,
I’ll take the bait.

The time may indeed be gigantic, but you nonetheless bring it down to something very quick, very immediete. There's something about this that makes the reader believe that there is very little time to waste for the things that should matter to us the most. It's probably that third to last stanza that makes this think this. Something about it feels as though the voice is finally coming through at the last second, hoping the second party is still there to listen. Beautiful, thrilling work.
