Ghosts in the Cloud

by Vikki Owens

Life used to be so substantial,
human beings
connecting,
body heat to body heat,
the transfer of electricity
was a metephore.

Now people pass before me,
ghosts in the cloud,
kareeming into focus,
and then out,
flickering with ones and zero's,
a hello
and a good bye
and a parenthetical smile.
Whole relationships
spent
and never met,
the distance between
so close,
yet really, so far.

I have seen shadows with more substance,
I have been in love with people who have less.
Reality is pereception.
