Discommunication

by Genevieve Sturrock

let's not pretend
this exchanging
of words is
communication
i watch you
watch me speak
without an ounce
of comprehension
reflecting in your eyes
and when my tears flow
faster than my words
you shore your defenses
stony visage, icy, stoic
until my words run dry
and my vision blurs
leaving me stranded
behind blinded eyes
with nothing left
to say

oh, we have all been there, which is what makes this so powerful. to know that the words are not getting through, no matter what we say does leave us stranded, estranged. i hope you are well today...
