MY OWN

by Emily Sullivan

when you were young
and tiny in my arms
i rocked you to sleep
putting you at ease
away from this big, new world
and to the places you
would dream of in
your sweet little mind

you would cling to me
and call me your own
and i loved you
as if it were true

to watch you grow
is a bittersweet thing -
proud of what you are becomming
but missing when i was your shelter

the things you are going through
are not fair and not right
so when you are feeling hopeless
when you feel you are alone
rest easy in my arms
where you can find peace
and find those dreams once again
and i will love you as my own....
