Thirst

by Christopher Shin

The space between
you and me seems
so close by.

Like lips we part
with words that
don't seem to come
out.

We suck the air
between our teeth
and the howling
of the sky seems
more fearful then
the words you are
about to say.

And like lightening
you break my heart.
Shatter any kind
of redeeming factor.

Only your broken
triumph stride as
you stalk into
the empty night.

The cement floor
is my only companion.
As the coldness bites
down and reminds me
about history long gone.

Wow. Talk about taking a bite out of a moment. You did with this, Christopher, the image of the concrete especially strong!
