Mosaic Heart by Alison McKenzieThe death grip I’ve maintained
On the bolted door weakens,
Sending me headlong
Into your open arms.
You catch me,
Quiet me,
Soothe me,
Hold me close to your heart,
Persuade my head to rest
On shoulders broader than they appear.
I allow the comfort
Of your voice calling me “kitten”
To warm the brittle glue
Of my mosaic heart.
It melts, regroups,
Forms stronger bonds
Between the tiled fragments.
Your reserve falls away
In the kindled spark
Of our fire come to life,
Your whispers breathing life
Into embers long enough cold,
Blowing aside the ashes that are
The last of my hesitation.
Your heart strikes up a
Silent conversation with mine,
The discussion lingering
On matters unspoken.
Somehow, an agreement is reached
Deep in the channels of wordless emotions,
Anxiety floating to the ground
In the gorgeous colors of autumn slumber,
Winter waiting to claim my soul
Under the pristine promise of one more spring.

Posted by George Hoerner on 10/16/09 at 02:02 PM Good write Alison. My daughter has been going through this over and over but I think she finally welded the bolt shut. |

Posted by Charlie Morgan on 10/16/09 at 09:38 PM ...ali, i, have words; they are lined-up, clapping; this one gets/got better as you spotlighted her...and on two of three reads the line :"Blowing aside the ashes that are
The last of my hesitation." that is a keeper.

Posted by Clara Mae Gregory on 10/17/09 at 02:26 PM This is brilliant,Ali. It sent shivers throughout my body as I read. It is a powerfully expressive poem that I can understand and relate to these emotions of the heart. It also makes me feel very joyful for you! |
Posted by Sandy M. Humphrey on 10/19/09 at 03:58 PM Yes, letting go of the death grip on that bolt feeling those fingers releasing and the heart opening up, this is beautiful, expressive and as Charlie says a keeper, as are you. smh |
