Dare I Say

by Ken Harnisch

Dare I say I want to hold you again?
Not to your face and not so boldly
I think
Until I get the feeling
You need to be held

You will tell me if the day
Ever comes;
I’ll be there shortly afterwards;
We are both so sure of this
We go on living
Our rattling, restless lives
With that being
One of its few eternal verities.

I love the last three lines especially, the stillness of verity, amidst the rattle, and what a verity... a consolation or a hope at the center.

Oh, that's a dare you oughta take. There is a sweetness here, Ken, that defies convention.

You write with a wistful quill of a true romantic, words that may or may not ever truly reach the intended yet must escape the heart for it to go on beating. Lovely. smh
