When I was a little girl
there was this,
for nights when
there was yelling downstairs,
or the dark was too dark,
or the fear that seemed to crash around inside me was too strong.

Dear God,
Please put one angel
at each corner of my bed.
Please put one angel above and below my bed.
Please put one angel at my door,
and please have one angel
waiting to carry me away from here.
