Burn Down the Garden

by Susan Q Tomas

Burn down the garden I loved so much.
The sunflowers, the herbs, the tomatoes.
Let the bonfire shed light on my sins against you,
like how my sobriety does.
I have done you wrong, and I am sorry.

Burn down the garden, level it completely.
It pains me to see such destruction of beauty.
But it is necessary so that I will never do it again.
Anger is great, in response to something
that you should be angry about.
