The Joy of Drinking Alone

by Christopher Shin

Music flutter
like a broken butterfly
with jagged wings.

The light cascade
like rain all around
me against a void
back drop.

Welcomes come and go.
Goodbyes seem to follow
around the corner.

Slowly like a fan
a swish of the hair
is tossed to the side,
and I stare into
the ruby red.

The glass staggers
against the wine,
and the feelings
inside me stay
the same.

All around me
life fast forward,
and I sit alone
in the bleak
depressing tragic
world.

I offer a salute
and frown cause
a smile would
be very inappropriate.
