A man by himself by Jason WardellIt’s September.
In my experience,
the Denver September
is all over the place.
It’s been mild.
60s, 70s, some clouds,
no clouds, maybe rain,
but still mild.
I prefer it like that,
not having to adjust
to the extremes.
Last week we had
a real scorcher,
a nice change of pace:
August was similarly mild.
September is freezing.
She has terrified me into my skin
and turned me to the elements.
Go home,
she said.
Dress warmly.
Autumn is here. 09/19/2009 Author's Note: Cribbing a bit from Ava Blu's recent August series, especially august sixth. Particularly "September is freezing" and "Winter is coming." Who am I kidding; I owe this whole poem to that series. Oh, and Ed Abbey, too.

Posted by Gabriel Ricard on 09/19/09 at 03:14 PM It was a brilliant collection of work, wasn't it? I'd say this piece does fine justice to it. |
Posted by Ava Blu on 09/19/09 at 03:41 PM I am.... I don't know what I am at this moment. You're the second person to be inspired by that series, which is 2 too many in my opinion. I can see the inspiration and think it goes well with my series. The one you mentioned in your Author's Note was a favorite of mine. I think it, along with the last in my series, summed up how I felt in August. Thank you for being you. |
