Time Suspended

by Joe Cramer

It always amazes me how quiet it is,
No one home, all alone.
Just the clocks tick tocking
On the wall. No one needs anything,
Nothing is there, the phone is gone.
It's like some sort of resort in Florida
Without the ocean, or any notion.
Of the time suspended.
I remain alone, upended,
Waiting for something to happen.
I quietly pad around on slippered feet
To the front window and peer out,
Seeing nothing, viewing everything.
This blue sky greets me, warm sun shining.
Half awake through closely lidded eyes.
I watch the sun's shine.
In the waiting, I make the coffee,
Toast some bread, turn on the radio.
These are the things I know.
The time remains suspended.
The moments pass with more tick tocking
From all the cheap clocks on the wall.
I am singularily aware of nothing
And everything in this place.
The memories never seem to erase.
