When I Stood Up

by Maria Terezia Ferencz

I tried to walk upright
but tripping on the untied shoelaces of life
gave me a closer look at the ground
it really is not that bad at all
lower maybe
but easier to be this close
to the ground, we all end up there anyway
Any distance between the lowest and highest person
not much when your laying down
So I will call this my head start
never feeling that uneasiness
that heights can create
never being above anyone else
can be a comfort
If I am closer to the ground it makes it easier
to reach everyone else
never having anyone grasping
to reach me either
all so close

so I left my shoelaces untied
when I stood up

I love this, in the end, we are all on equal footing from that vantage point.
