upon my awakening

by Charlie Morgan

awoke to a morning of silence;
saw the trees staring at me,
they had a smug, sad look.

already the day had turned brown
and passed the green line of dew;
shined as the breath was leaving.

evening was coming fast, heaving.
mirrors of time were clouded,
i drew moments in the blur.

a noise broke the silence, breath
was pulled from the very shrubs
that surrounded me, it was today.

stretching its life beyond morning;
pulling water from billowed clouds;
bathing in unison in the sun's light.

so, my hammock was swaying with love;
a love that went deeper than before.
and this was a regular day being born.

it was mine. it was yours. it was ours
to make. knead into a shape of comfort.
a day to be like no other. given.
