Getting Comfortable by Anita MacSitting on a pile of gravel,
my back against the wrong side
of a fence,
I was thinking that maybe Now
was the time
to reach out for you.
I never did
for fear you wouldn’t
actually be there,
though you’ve never
failed me in the past
(sometimes almost miraculously so).
I just got comfortable
with gouges in my seat
and a bar across my back.
Your hands
always seemed
to gravitate toward my hips,
and my arms always wanted
to be wrapped around your shoulders. 09/01/2009 Author's Note: And it occurs to me that I am writing in the past tense... and that is a little heartbreaking, though probably for the best.
