Emily knows of the epiphany,
Blocking and being "off book"
At the tender age of twelve.
I am both amazed
And dismayed.
I never knew of any of this
Until the weak-minded age of nineteen.
(And then after reading James Joyce.)
She knows more of Shakespeare now
Than I did in college at age twenty.
I am continually in awe At the complexity her mind comprehends.
I remind myself that she has yet to peruse
Faulkner, Fitzgerald or Hemingway,
Kierkegaard, Sartre or Camus.
These days are still yet to come,
And I so look forward to discussing them with her.
So I remain amazed,
What else can I do?
