emperor goose

by Christina Butcher

if the sun never sets
could we go on like this forever?

could i keep you, boxed up

clocked in and
frozen between these wings
and those engines

my love, could i keep you?

could i press you, firmly
between the pages
until you breathe me, deep?

we are written on the rim of the earth,
my love, burning sky

fly, geese moving in formation

heart is a window seat
when the sun never sets

i will shine with you

Author's Note: this poem centers around the idea that moments we treasure can be suspended in time, never ending if the sun never sets (like in the northern hemisphere). i wrote this poem en route to whitehorse, yukon, for my lover.

...christina, i love the line breaks and the cool "choppy-ness" of this: i try for the same thing sometime...a lot of the time...i like, i like.
