august twenty-fifth by Ava Blui spent the day nude,
twisting around on the floor
watching people out the window stealing trash;
you,
you spent the day calling me,
you keep calling,
keep coming
but i'm no longer here. 08/25/2009 Posted on 08/26/2009 Copyright © 2025 Ava Blu

Posted by Gabriel Ricard on 08/26/09 at 04:51 AM It's amazing to me that you can write something like August 24th and then come around to something like this. That first stanza is a knock-out on the imagery and for the way it so brilliantly drops into the middle of things. The second stanza and last line are great, but it's even better because you honestly don't know where you're going after that first stanza. It's a hell of a great sharp turn, and the result is something that's quite strange, viciously powerful and just a great piece of poetry that I wish I could hear in person. Wow. |
