Broken Dreams

by Alisa Js

I would rather remember
our seductive smiles
breakfast for two, playing in bed
evenings full of laughter and screams.
of conquering the world
of grabbing those keys
to everlasting happiness,
it was all we could see...

and not of the nights
waiting,
pacing the floor
watching as minutes bled into hours
each second slicing deeper.
why you never called
when you said you would
and never came home.
guess you never really cared
not about me,
choosing instead to leave

was she worth it?
the stolen kisses
the lies you lived
the hell you put me through.
as I sat there, disbelieving
with my heart on the door
splattered
damaged
broken in two,
how could you?
