madly

by Brynn Dizack

i had a dream i was learning
how to swim:
the sea was light like air,
a little genderless,
something so wide,, and drowsy

the shore was your back,
the pluck of your skin
three vertebrae rise like
stepping stones.

i had a dream i was learning
how to dream,,

and this is the end of it:
oh,
in the sea
the water supports the weight
of the whale.

air is not
the same.

we will suffocate under our own weight.

my phenomenon is not too far from this:
the night,
the word of a cloud,
the fragile roof of your
forehead and the
heavy hands you despise.
