Like doves by Laura Doomwe take flight
to keep the peace
within reach of our keepers
a grasp of reapers
harvesting passivity.
While roosters preen
brave hearts beat retreat,
crash the land
and pick up pieces
bedded in blackground.
Preserve of light
her spread of wings
essential to my journey
from false pretence
to ideal self. 07/29/2009 Posted on 07/29/2009 Copyright © 2024 Laura Doom

Posted by Michael Smith on 07/29/09 at 07:32 PM I appreciate your fine control over this work, Laura. It feels very disciplined and restrained, which is interesting because we're talking about flight and escape. A nice dichotomy of peace and havoc or freedom, good symbolism of a dove. Well composed, thank you.

Posted by Elizabeth Jill on 07/30/09 at 02:51 PM Laura, your skill with deep-deeper-deepest increments [tucked carefully inside layers of meaning] comes effortless. And just like doves shift our eyes to look up from the ground, this poem validates the quiet journeyer. (And you, yes, you would know.)
