Now And Then

by Thomas K. Hunt

There was a time when I was young
Born to be the second son
Unconditional love surrounded me
The last of four in a loving family

We grew strong, and we grew right
Proud to walk the streets at night
I shared some dreams and had some fun
Made lifelong friends from childhood chums

Lasting memories that fill my mind
Make me smile from time to time
Faded faces so clear and true
All the faces that have seen me through

As I stand in front of loving eyes
Sharing the laughter under northern skies
Free to be, who I’m free to be
Look real close; it's the real me

Another time will come and go
Add another memory to all of those
Bring a smile for one more time
Pass it on to a friend of mine

Only time is here to stay
For you and me, it gets shorter by the day
Feel it beat in this heart of mine
Where you will be for all of time

One thing in nature still rings true
A friend for life will see you through
There’s no doubt in this boys mind
You’ll always be a friend of mine

Stretched so far and spread too thin
It’s a battle to get there again
Miles away from too many hearts
Impossible to go back to start
