Of temples and hotels

by Scott Cadence

I live inside
this body

I use it to move
through the world

I draw from the energy
contained within
my human
genome

to accelerate
till combustion
becomes fire
and fire
creates light

and I can finally
see my reckless
and smothered
reflection in the mirror

allowed
once again
the rush
of blood
to hit my face

and feel alive.

I sleep inside
this body

I use it to wrap myself
in a secret dream

I allow my ideas
of satisfaction
to destroy its most
basic defenses

and what
should be innate
suddenly requires
translation

in order
to function
I’m given another
medication

and I try
to not imagine
the silent and cunning
progress of the stranger
replicating at will inside me

but I’m haunted
by the paths
that were ahead,
by the memories
of broken lovers,
by the things I can
no longer give
my mother,
all crying out
under my skin.

And I could easily

die inside
this body

if I let this define
the measurements
and capabilities
of my soul

so I must pull forth
the courage it takes
and use it to
transform myself

to accelerate
till combustion
becomes fire
and fire
creates light

and I can finally
see my reckless
and smothered
reflection in
the mirror

allowed
once again
a rush of hope
to fill my life

and live again.

Author's Note:
there is a future out there you never imagined for
yourself... do not make the mistake of treating your
temples as hotels.

I am in awe. This is so humble in is perspective and so strong in its mentoring. Very strong. ~N

This was great. I loved the style and the way it reads out. Good stuff man.
