I've been expecting you for quite some time
The hole inside my skull has been waiting as well
For the black cloud of sorrow that you are

You've stayed away so long, I knew you'd be back
Expecting a warm welcome from me as usual
And even though I refuse your presence within me

I guess I should have known it was futile

I guess I should have known there was nothing
That could have prevented your return
The happiness I immerse myself in continually
Did absolutely nothing to fill the hole where you live

I guess I should have known the truth somehow
Should have realized what was really going on
Listening for a sign that you were back, I never saw
Pretending I could somehow escape your clutches

I guess I should have known you never left
