A Bird's Heart

by Christopher Shin

Close the blinds,
as the images fade
into the evening
sky.

Twilight lingers
and I sniff the
sweet smell
of ash and soul.

Fling me out
and the stars
and empty void
greet the oh
so familiar
faces.

Let all forget
and I am gone
in the dust
and grind of
history.

Sing to me once,
and I am a spirit
that shutters
like the lilac
in an open grave.

Place a stone
on the edge and
I am brought
back to life.

Tell me once,
and memory becomes
immortality in
the crystal etched
heart.

Let me go,
and I am gone
forever.
