I Live This

by Alison McKenzie

I live with this -
The pain of the decision made
To live without
Your laughter,
Your touch,
Your quiet radiance.

I live in it,
Inhale it,
Exhale it,
It saturates me,
Oozes back into
Fields that surround me,
Feeds the earth,
Evaporates to ethers,
Makes the clouds,
Turns to rain
On me again.

I live with this –
The decision to live in love
And not fear,
Embracing the pain that follows
Turning to face it,
Walk through it,
To another side of this,
Beyond being alone with you,
Beyond being alone without you,

A new journey wavers in the mist,
Just out of view
But I feel it there,
Waiting for me to come along.

The third stanza is a beautiful and profound proclamation and the last two lines encompass that world of love... with such brevity, one word changes the world. with out. Oh Ali, I pray you find the solidity of a love you can never lose even in the midst of the mist of loss and that it takes over the journey that's calling. Love your sweet spirit.

This is very thick and beautiful. The imagery in the second stanza especially sticks out for me. The last few lines of that stanza "Makes the clouds,/Turns to rain/On me again." flow very well and definitely solidify the stanza. The melancholy is clear throughout, and you concluded this piece very nicely. Thanks for sharing, Alison.

THIS: "live with this – The decision to live in love And not fear, Embracing the pain that follows Turning to face it, Walk through it, To another side of this" AWESOME. So, so, nicely done. Wow.
