The Look of a Forlorn Woman

by Megan Langley

She never thinks to ask herself the simple questions; instead, she ponders such complex concepts, not unlike an inquisitive five-year-old who keeps pestering his mommy with impossible-to-answer inquiries about the color of the sky and the depths of the ocean. It’s not clear to the common bystander why she does this to herself; why she complicates her life beyond normal reality. This gentle young woman’s bright blue eyes stare mindlessly, hours on end, out of the frosty window pane, most likely in hopes for some soothing sensation evoked by examining every aspect of the animated life out there. One would be inclined to make assumptions here, that this lonely woman longs for human affection and only strives to achieve such a moment of perfection, the fulfillment of knowing one possesses the ability to give and receive love. So, yes, it is quite natural to theorize some elaborate reason for this lady’s wandering, hopeful eyes. But, one is unaware of the spirited individual whose soul burns with desire for her; whose every thoughts revolve around this complicated woman; whose questions merely consist of ways to make her happy again. No, one was clueless to this little, insignificant detail, as she would most likely call him.

She never thinks to ask herself the simple questions; instead, she wonders why she isn’t content with a man who adores her; who breathes her in with every inhale; who worships the very ground she walks upon; who simply cannot get enough of her. Why? She wonders.

I really enjoyed this piece. You must realize that the same issue exists for some men as well. I have no answers to the question except for myself and I suspect that is the way it must be answered. The form is fine. I would take another look at this piece. "whose every thoughts revolve around this complicated woman;"
