a moon rising

by Charlie Morgan

drawing tides along with me,
the moon is busy changing
lives and worlds. soon
we will see it like a drunk
uncle at a reunion.

a gamma ray exists in man;
a honing of anger building;
fortunes seen, not get-able;
wilting are the hearts.
less! busy being settled-for.

hang the noose high, he'll kick.
the last twitch of mankind will
be the cockroach king, last ruler.
then the melting will begin.
okay. turn me over, i'm done.

we exalt ourselves and smile;
realities abound, we sing;
oblivion, the very sea
in which we wade, swim.
time has taught us.

we've learned naught.

That last line just clinches it. I love the line, "soon we will see it like a drunk uncle at a reunion"

What an awesome piece! We've learned nothing - using no intellect as we move forward in life. Using instinct like animals and subcoming to the pulls of the forces around us. I so agree. I so agree. Hugs, ~N

Great write Charlie! Really awesome sir, that after all these thousands of years we seem still to be driven primarily by greed, or self preservation, or some other basic instinct and that we use intellect to these ends and forego truth, honesty, and charity unless we somehow gain from these civil niceties.

Alas, it's sooo very hard for us humans to learn anything new - being that we're all sooo perfect. It seems we hear the best when we're wounded and/or with ripe pains and sorrows bleeding. But sooner or later most of us 'get it'. Proving you can teach an ol' dog a couple new tricks.
