My Eyes

by Alison McKenzie

I know something
That I don’t say with words;
Plenty of other words
Come, go,
Fly to paper
Sticky,
Trapped.

My eyes try to tell it -
Deep earthen pools
Full of something
Even I find disquieting.

That last line is brilliant: "Full of something even I find disquieting." The rest of this paints an interesting minimalist picture, but I don't pretend to know what it is you know.

the eyes have it in this intriguing gem of a poem...which makes you think about things unsaid and their weightier meaning.

Precisely why I find that eyes are one of the most precious parts of being; they never lie, even when our mouths do. Love this one, Ali.
