Lucy Is by Richard VinceLucy is swimming in the night sky
Inhaling the liquid air,
Embracing the vapour world.
Her eyes and ears are open as
She dances gleefully among the stars,
Feeling the frozen pinpoints of
Ages old light and heat as
The softest needles on her skin.
Lucy and the world fade into
One another, expanding, diffusing
As the boundaries disappear
And they become one.
Music, words and laughter transcend
Sound as they become a feeling;
A single, all pervasive entity
That encapsulates all that there is.
Lucy feels it all as mist,
Its ethereal fingers reaching out
To touch every part of her
Being, her life and her world.
She basks in the feeling of being
Touched infinitesimally yet infinitely.
Her memories grow wings, becoming
Doves that fly from her heart
And blaze a brilliant white
In the starlight, and she becomes
An entity composed only of now.
Lucy smiles. She understands.

Posted by Jo Halliday on 06/23/09 at 04:06 AM Beautifully written. This makes something move inside me, like an old memory, a memory that I was born with and yet I forget to care about.. |

Posted by Samiah Haque on 08/03/09 at 08:38 AM this is a beautiful poem. it reminded me of the expectations i had of the song 'lucy in the sky with diamonds' before i heard it--this is the lost melody and feel of it that i had wanted for so long. |
