Tick-tock Mock

by Christel Crews

A broken clock hangs by a nail

Mocking those who look to it

Searching for proof of the passage of time

All the while, time stands still as you wait

Wait

Wait

For an answer, for a reason

Why you are in this God-forsaken place

Losing track of days, hours, minutes

The sun sets and rises yet

The clock tells you no time has passed

Since you walked in the room

Ten days later

You walk out

no longer resembling the one who walked in.

Author's Note: waiting in the hospital for results to come back.. mind numbing..not knowing if what you're dealing with is life-threatening or not.. if you will leave a widow or not.

My heart goes out to you and you have expressed this very well. You are in my prayers.
