Henry - Part Deuce by Maude CurtisPart Deuce.
Get It?
Deuce Coupe?
Forget It!
**********************************
Let's see, where'd Ah leave off? Oh Yea.
So tha next thing Ah knowed Cy an' Will wuz back with Pop's.
Here they come with tha tractor an' Cy wuz carrin' a chain saw!
AH"M SCARED!! Cy starts ta cuttin' down that half growed tree.
Will an' Pop's r standin' an' watchin' an' Pops's 'xplainin' "Newtons Law"
That whirlin' mass of terror wuz gettin' mighty close.
"Careful there Boy! That's mah inner fender you're touchin'."
Then Will an' Pops starts ta cuttin' down tha weeds.
"WOW!" Ah'm free! Now whadda they plan on doin'?"
With that there done Pops pulls 'round tha tractor
an' hooks a chain ta wha' wuz left a mah front axle.
"Otaaay ya guuuyyyzzz thiishe ain't a bith fuuuunnny.
Wha' tha H iiisssth goin' tha haaafffen ta me now?
Well Cy an' Will hops on tha cart an' away we go
'cross tha pasture ta tha barn. Aaah Home Sweeeeth Home.
We stops in front a tha barn an' Pops an' Cy unhooks me
while Will, Grams an' Will's Momma watches tha fun.
Ah take a big breath. Shake off tha loose rust
an' settle inta tha dirt as mah left front fender falls off.
Will laughs an' says, "Gram an' Momma thinks you're crazy too Dad."
Cy jest smiles an pats' mah hood an' says, "Go on. Ya'll scoff.'
While Pops goes ta start his chores, Cy pulls 'round
a new fan dangled pickup truck an' a trailer.
Cy tells Will, "Okay Boy, let's load him up."
Ah'm thinkin' "Who they gonna load up where?"
"OH NO! LOAD ME UP ON A TRAILER? HOLD ON NOW YA GUYS!
Trailers are fer horses, cows, pigs. Ya know livestock."
Cars don' go on trailers. They go on tha road, ya know!"
They ain't hearin' me. "Man this here's a crock!"
Well, Ah gits up there an' git ta thinkin',
"Ah guess ah kin't go fer on mah rims, ya know."
an' as they ties me down Ah'm lookin' 'round
an feelin' like a great big freak show.
Grams hollers "Supper's on, Ya'll. Git it while it's hot."
Cy, Will an' Pops heads indoors an' leaves me there alone.
While tha dogs do their thing on tha tires, Ah'm a thinkin',
"Serve's him right. Ah'd tan his hide if he weren't full grown."
After supper Cy, Momma an' Will says bye ta Pops an' Grams
an' with me on that trailer we headed down tha road.
Finally we git there an' Cy pulls up ta tha barn.
Momma an' Will hits tha sack while Cy fixes ta unload.
Unload me, Ah guess inta tha barn that Cy calls tha "garage".
When Cy hauls me off tha trailer an' inta tha garage
Ah'm thinkin' Ah'd dun rusted clean away an' woke up in car heaven.
Ah didn't believe mah headlights, Ah wuz seein' a mirage.
Concrete floors, (no kiddin' not dirt concrete),
nice warm air, purty music comin' from everywhere,
lots a bright lights, no kerosine lantrens ta start a fire
an' a ice box ta keep mah radiator water in. (Wha' Cy calls "beer")
"Man, What a life. Ah'm gonna like it here."
Cy turns off tha lights an' says, "Nite Henry Ole Pal."
Ah settles down in mah new digs an' starts a thinkin'.
an' wonderin', "Jes what's gonna happen ta me now?"
06/18/2009 Author's Note: Part "deuce" (in case you haven't figgered it out. Henry is a 1932 model.) Anyway, the saga of Henry will continue.
What will happen next? If you haven't built a car only those who have will know.

If this were all that I would ever read of Henry ever again, I know I would feel like a little kid at bedtime wanting to hear more; but more than anything, I would be in heaven just from the ride! Maude you are such a delight to read! I can't wait til part 3!!! Absolutely nooooo pressure though ok? Take all of the time you need. :) |
