Sketches for "Rejoining the Hunt"

by Cristy M.

The lipstick on the rim of this glass of milk
from yesternight's glass of water before the prom
is the tenderness in recollecting a very recent past
this next day, this Sunday.

I said this to myself in reverie, giggling,
(even a little),
"Before the mirror, I am a lioness."

All this flesh is saturated in
eucalyptus, outside/honey vanilla, in,

and I am all staring at the footprints of my lips
in their chocolate paint's stockings
while licking at the insides of my own mouth
to better taste the taste of it
fluttering, the butterflies in my belly,
fanning the aroma/taste back mouth-ways.

I say this to myself in reverie, silent,
(even for a moment),
"Moved from the grasslands onto the swamps,
I am a lioness and I am hunting."
