Optional Allusion

by Laura Doom

If I had a head
for the dissy heights of politics
I'd party until morning broke
the news of my concession.

If I had the stomach
for a fight unto the death
I'd murder every day
as if it were my last confession.

If I had the figure
to subsidize my lack of taste
I'd take it lying down
a part-time martyr to the cause

If I had a choice
between free will and "Yeah, whatever"
I'd sign up to my future
and invoke the opt-out clause.

Author's Note: Then is it equally obvious, Ava, that your title is a derivative of my mine (Optical Ablution -- posted 22/05/09)?
Thanks Gabriel -- I'm sure your comment could be applied with equal validity to much of my writing.
Yes, Ava, I think that's a good place to leave it. I'm prepared to overlook your misrepresentation of the chronology.

I'd say it's obvious your title came from my recent poem....

I'm pretty torn here. On one hand, it's a lame attempt at being clever. On another hand, it's very poorly written. I guess we'll just have to go for something in the middle.

Ah, that would be making an assumption that I read everything you post. Yours was written almost 2 months ago. This was made obvious by the posting right after mine was posted. Perhaps it would have served you better to have asked if my title was because of your older poem? Perhaps then I would have revised it? Well, I guess we shall never know.

It's better than anything I've written, too. I really relate, especially ~

If I had a choice
between free will and "Yeah, whatever"
I'd sign up to my future
and invoke the opt-out clause.
