All Grown Up

by Alison McKenzie

And now I shift from sun to moon,
So swiftly dropping into June
And quietly drift to slumber sky,
Adjustment to the by and by.

At once I was your shining orb
My energy you’d drink, absorb
So gently, over course of time,
Let go, your youthful hands in mine.

To watch you walk, to see you run,
Become your own, to stand as one.
The shadow draws me slowly in;
My light proceeds from dawn to dim.

Receding to horizon’s floor,
The lullabies on distant shore.
Observing now, from far away
I’ve floated to the end of day.

Watch o’er your sleep and dreaming bliss
Tip-toeing in for silent kiss
Your cherub cheeks, to touch your hair
In spirit will I linger there.

Allowing for your radiant selves,
I settle in upon your shelves,
Contented with occasional glance,
The wonder of your circumstance.

I love this.I am a real sucker for a good poem that rhymes.....this has great rhythm and flow and I like the theme, of course....for it is one I can easily relate to. I enjoyed reading this very much. Thanks, Alison. :)
