Up-canyon in season
All green is leather--
Glossy and thick.
Only sewer nourished
Manis remains turgid,
Lacy, and fine.

Companions all now
Tissue brown leaves,
Shriveld strings
Hung wrinkly with
Two-inch prickly melons.

Perhaps harsh island drought,
Justifies gray-water
Refreshment, stimulation,
And over-extended roots.
