Tom Cat

by James Zealy

Tom is somewhere between Orange and white
or Yellow and White
Marked by a white Blaze chest
And white stocking steps

And I miss him
Since he left or was taken or died
Or was a coyote appetizer item
No matter, I have this empty ocean tide

And no place to stop the tears
And no place for his white peke beau bear
To play and roll and madly smear
Hair clumps where ever they appeared

His brothers and sisters
Were unwelcome guests
Left unattended for us to assist
Crying as babies do when left

With no way to eat or protect
Themselves from rampant crawly pests
Curled together in a tiny family sect
Hidden under wooden steps

When a neighbor brought food
He pushed his way ahead alone
And demanded his role as leader of the brood
Auditioning for his place and a home

So we took in this feline orphan
We loved him and called him simply Tom Cat
Now he is no place known
And all I know is I wish he were back

Well, Tom cats do tend to vanish for a while in erstwhile feline pursuits. I hope he comes back to you. This is a great memorial for him in any case.

flows nicely and has a lot of personal details, which I love...and is SO sad to me, I hope he returns to you soon!

The storytelling in this is just perfect, and it's only made the better with your attention to poetic form. Well done indeed.
