The Colors Outside of the Lines

by Jared Orlando

We close in such spaces
Of panic and duress
Of delusion and dilution
But when attention is challenged
For distance arises
Not between such bodies
But behind such eyes
As pupil takes over
Your love has departed,
Only remnants stay only
Pieces of pieces
But your puckering lips
Slightly chapped and wanting
Are still filling the gaps with
An explosion behind your lids
The fires in your gaze
Are only temporary warning signs
Of a war to come
With failing artillery
I’m left with merely broken shells
Of a beaten and used heart
You thrill the emptinesses
And make good the cracks
But it’s darkest before dawn
And I’m ill prepared
Because I hide in the fracture
And you only coming closer
The biggest blow comes
While at the mercy of you
When your eyes spill your secrets
And ignorance becomes irrelevant

Knowledge can be a pretty scary thing, eh? You certainly seem to nail that idea here.
