they see a lot

by Charlie Morgan

a pair of short jeans
kept two legs a-blur,
as they churned
into each tomorrow,

and found me waiting.
at the edge of sunset;
his day just beginning.
we run to meet. embrace.

'paPaw, paPaw' he exorts.
i grin all the way to my toes.
'kai, my lil' man,' i scream.
we meet and clasp each other.

he asks of the other side.
i say it's the same.
dogs, birds, Mamas, Daddies,
and paPaws-everywhere.

'trucks, too paPaw' his plea.
'ohh, you bet and trains too.'
'and Mojos[linus blanket], paPaw?
paPaw, i'll wait for you, we'll play.'

Great write Charlie. I can picture you and the little big man in your play. He is lucky and I think he really knows it.

"i grin all the way to my toes." -- this is such a great line, embodies that feeling perfectly. In reading from my own perspective, the piece takes on a sweet sadness for me from the line "he asks of the other side." -- it's wonderful (and in my heart)

I absolutely adore this, Chaz. Isn't it amazing what these grandchildren can do to you? I never knew! I really had no idea the impact my first one would have on my life... I can't get enough of your poetry about yours!

what a lucky little boy to have a great pa-Paw like you Charlie. Give him a big hug for me.
