Just out of arms length

by Jared Orlando

From the looks of the highest tower,
You could either be there or higher
And your beasts and worries of the night
Will fight their way to scale and climb
But you, my dear, have the fairest eyes
Staying as still as tranquil waters
Your hair, a paradigm, now in motion
As you behold your streets of gold
A fitted dress of lace and embroidered silks
Your open hands are releasing birds
And winds pick up to accentuate your presence
Fragrances swoon and drop upon my lips
In through my nose and I drop everything
For my purposes have changed and
My paths lead only to some pale goddess
Overlooking a city from a windowsill
Controlling men’s senses with a swift wave
I’m overwhelmed and looking and searching
And you’ve surrounded yourself with barriers
With your fears lurking in murky moats, and you
Hiding inside of an unwelcoming fortress
You taunt from way up high so I
Can never quite reach you
But just close enough to persist
And you know just how to intrigue enough
To indulge in such selfish ways
And leave anything that could possible harm
Just out of arms length
