Hardest pill to swallow by Maria KintnerYou can scream lucky seven,
and watch them roll the dice.
A tumble and rumble across the
barren Earth floor. And cross
your fingers when you're walking out
into traffic. Almost invisible
to the machines that speed around you.
All the gambling and risk, like
ripe fruit, sweetening in the Sun.
Everything tastes like candy.
And we're all fooled by the promise
That this will never happen to me...
While we swim in molten lava, and build our
castles on quicksand.
Acceptance is a stone; a bitter medicine.
It makes us lie to achieve it and leaves us
numb when we've found it. 04/29/2009 Author's Note: Almost a year. I still can't believe this has happened to me.

Posted by Gabriel Ricard on 04/29/09 at 12:26 PM Sharp, brutal verse. Even though these events happened a year ago, they're clearly as fresh as yesterday in your mind. |
