it was goodbye before i could even say hello by Ava Blui'm not going to give you the happy story,
the smiling pieces to make a dream catcher
that you think just might solve it all
i just wanted to see how you were doing,
to see if you remembered me
and i'm not going to give you the sad story,
the tears inside the broken clock stuck at 6:16,
the time you left me for good
you just wanted to see if i'd forfeit the game,
letting you have the glory again
the stories are almost the same
almost the way the books have them written
i took the batteries out of all the watches you gave me
and i'm tearing the pictures out of their frames;
the light bulbs are almost able to show it all
when you asked who i was,
i knew the wrinkles on my face
hid the imprint of your lies
and i decided to remain
anonymous.

Posted by Gabriel Ricard on 04/26/09 at 04:08 AM You gotta love those last two stanzas, those last two five lines. They burn the reader to hell and back quite beautifully. This has such a great, sharp focus. Everything in this takes us straight into those last two stanzas, and it does that flawlessly. What I love the most is how strong this sounds. It's not angry or bitter, but it definitely has something meaningful to say. |
