I know I’m way back when

by Thomas K. Hunt

I know I’m way back when, among the loving known
I know I live among them, in hearts where I call home
In this place that holds me tight
Buried roots under northern lights
Memories that live inside
Reappear then run and hide
Shaded faces that reveal the kind
Held warmly in the mind
A feeling seen through smiling eyes
Touches the soul and you know why

I know I’m way back when, among the loving kind
I know I live among them in thoughts that pass the mind
In this place that holds me tight
Tiny glimpses of every night
Sight felt and feelings seen
Everything is everything
Still there, though miles away
Still there, but in a different way
Sending thoughts in the still of the night
Just in time for the morning light

I know I’m way back when, among the loving known
I know I live among them, in hearts where I call home
In this place that holds me tight
Youth spent days and teen filled nights
Following footprints on hollowed ground
Scattered pieces left all around
Featured faces bring back the past
Subtle reminders of those that have passed
Live on through the knowing kind
Passed on to another mind

I know I’m way back when, among the loving kind
I know I live among them in thoughts that pass the mind
I know I’m way back when, among the loving known
I know I live among them, in hearts where I call home

Deeply, flawlessly personal. The use of repetition and an almost lyrical approach to form really works wonders here.
