Sometimes

by Bradd Howard

standing before you
a question mark in a pink party dress.
You say "be fearless."
You say "just be."
but what sides of me do I show to what sides of you?
what do I accentuate? what do I hide?
My teacher used to say "if you can't hide it-put bells on it."
You can hear me coming from miles away.
ringing and tolling, trying desperately to become something worthy of being seen.
Working out the cunundrum, how to just be me-
in front of you?
with no expectation. with faith.
You say "there must be a crisis of faith."
and I agree.
Standing before you now - my pink dress slips to the floor.
My narrow hips smile.
being me, looking at you
and believing.
