hide and seek by Ava Bluit goes unnoticed
when the people are hiding within the abandoned lots
and the houses seem to speak in tongues
their bodies are quietly leaving footsteps
along the winding trails
and the arms are going unnoticed
a game between ex-lovers
and friends that touch one another as if they’re still just
acquaintances;
the scent is unbearable
i’ve pulled the skin around my cuticles off
while watching the scene unfold;
no one notices when the blood isn’t on their own hands
the people are running around now,
searching for one of the lost wonders of the world
i’ve warned them before
about seeking secret treasures
still, i bite my nails,
i twitch in my seat
wanting to save them from the inevitable
if only a hand could be seen waving a white flag,
maybe then sanity would pull them away.

Posted by Gabriel Ricard on 04/16/09 at 04:27 PM You certainly know how to make the surreal bigger than the actual stage. I really like the observer quality of this, the way you're watching all this going on and then reporting back to us the strange happenings with your usual brilliant attention to detail and image (I especially love the first two stanzas). You're never anything less than a flawess storyteller, and this proves it well. |
Posted by Tom Goss on 04/21/09 at 03:07 PM I especially like this one with the stanzas read backwards (minus the 1st stanza though, so it ends with
their bodies are quietly leaving footsteps
along the winding trails
and the arms are going unnoticed).
Yes I'm insane. ;) |
