Enervation

by David Neubauer

It’s a sensation, not unlike pins and needles,
where all the feeling drains from your face
and your fingers feel like lead at the
end of your arms. But eventually,
you get somewhat used to the handicap;
you learn to play the game, using your
disability as best you can, legs dragging
that little bit more than your peers.
Maybe one day you’ll triumph, get the
renown, the recognition you’ve
been looking for. But for now, you’ll have to
drown under the weight of being
second-best.
